Baseball Secures Wins Over UMSV

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team secured a pair of wins Friday afternoon, as it bested the University of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference showdown.

Game One: Purchase 4, UMSV 3 (7 inn)

In the opening contest, the guests struck first with two runs in the first inning.

The Blue and Orange then responded with single runs in the third and fifth to tie things up at 2-2, before an RBI-single lifted the Dolphins back in front.

However, the Panthers would not be denied in the effort, as a two-run double in the seventh from Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) gave Purchase the win, 4-3.

Overall, the hosts finished with six hits in the effort, as Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) led the way with two, two runs and a walk.

On the mound, Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) tossed a seven-inning complete game, as he allowed just three runs (two earned) on four hits. He also struckout eight.

Game Two: Purchase 13, UMSV 4

While the opening game was a nail bitter, the second contest turned into a blowout by the end.

Initially, the Panthers grabbed the lead and led 2-1 over the first five innings, before blowing the contest wide open late.

Over the final four innings, the Blue and Orange scored three runs in the sixth, four in the seventh, three in the eighth and one more in the ninth to cruise to an easy win, 13-4.

At the plate, the Panthers belted out 17 hits, as Compton, Frank Rega (JR/West Islip, NY) and Sam Saltzman (SR/Old Bethpage, NY) each recorded a trio of hits.

On the hill, Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) went eight innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He fanned three in the victory.

With the result, Purchase moved to 11-22 overall and 7-9 in the Skyline Conference.

Up next for the squad is the final road matchup of the year, a doubleheader at Manhattanville on April 27th at noon.
