NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team dropped its Skyline Conference opener on Wednesday night, falling to Mount Saint Mary College, 17-4.
With the results, the Blue and Orange fell to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the Knights improved to 3-6 and 1-1, respectively.
Mount Saint Mary controlled the tempo early, outshooting Purchase 43-21 and winning 15 of 24 faceoffs.
The hosts jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and extended the margin to 11-1 by halftime.
Kevon Joseph (JR/Brooklyn, NY) and Zach Collins (SR/Victor, NY) each netted two goals for the Panthers. Zach Scott (FY/West Babylon, NY) assisted on both of Collins' fourth-quarter extra-man goals, resulting in the final 17-4 score.
On the defensive end, Brendon Truex (JR/Middletown, NY) and Cameron Savoca (SO/Nesconset, NY) each secured three caused turnovers and were responsible for nine of the team's 22 ground balls.
In goal, TJ Pasqualini (FY/West Harrison, NY) took the loss bringing his record to 1-2. He finished with nine saves, while Vincent Fuentes (FY/Bethpage, NY) entered in relief in the fourth quarter, adding two more stops.
The Blue and Orange are back on April 5th, making the short trip down Anderson Hill Road for a noon showdown at Manhattanville University.
