DANBURY, Conn. – The Purchase College softball team dropped both games in a doubleheader at Western Connecticut State on Wednesday evening.
With the results, the Panthers move to 6-4 on the season, while the Wolves improved to 10-8.
Game One: WestConn 13, Purchase 6 (7 inn.)
Purchase took a brief lead in the third inning after Tyler Salerno (SO/Kings Park, NY) drove in Devynn Hernandez (SO/Ossining, NY) with an RBI single. Moments later, Sariah Sanchez (FY/Eastvale, CA) singled, leading to a right-field error that allowed Salerno to score.
WestConn responded with a nine-run bottom half of the inning, seizing control of the game.
Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY), Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY), Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY), and Halle Greaige (SO/Rye Brook, NY) each added runs for Purchase.
Christopher led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs.
On the mound, Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY) took the loss (3-2), allowing nine runs on six hits.
Game Two: WestConn 22, Purchase 3 (5 inn.)
WestConn dominated early with a nine-run first inning and never looked back.
For the Panthers, Reddick went 2-for-3, scoring 2 runs while Christopher scored the only other run.
Sanchez went 2-for-3, with an RBI and a double and Goff made a rare at bat appearance going 2-for-2 with a double.
Pitching for the Blue and Orange, Christopher (2-2) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on seven hits.
Purchase opens Skyline Conference play with a doubleheader at St. Joseph's-Long Island on April 6th at noon.
