NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team recorded a dominant Skyline Conference sweep Friday morning, shutting out Yeshiva University in back-to-back games, 18-0 and 15-0.
With the results, the Blue and Orange improved to 11-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play, while Yeshiva fell to 1-21Â and 0-12, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 18, Yeshiva 0 ( 5 inn.)
Purchase wasted no time, getting on the board in the first inning with a solo home run by Sariah Sanchez (FY/Eastvale, CA). Kelly Jennings (JR/Yorktown Heights, NY) followed with an RBI single to score Tyler Salerno (SO/Kings Park, NY), putting the Panthers up 2-0.
The Panthers kept their foot on the gas, adding four runs in the second inning. Devynn Hernandez (SO/Ossining, NY) and Halle Greaige (SO/Rye Brook, NY) both scored on sacrifice flies, and Sanchez tripled in a run to make it 5-0.
In the third, Purchase continued its onslaught. Greaige singled in a run, and then Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY) launched a three-run homer, bringing the score to 10-0. Sanchez then followed with a two-run shot, extending the lead to 12-0.
The Panthers wrapped up their scoring in the fourth and fifth innings. Reddick hit her second home run of the game, a three-run blast, followed by a pair of unearned runs. A single from Salerno and a Kat Combe (SR/Brooklyn, NY) home run made it 17-0, and Hernandez added another unearned run with a double in the fifth.
Reddick finished the game with 7 RBIs, going 2-for-3 with two homers. Sanchez also added a homer and a triple, driving in 3 runs. Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a double, while Christopher went 3-for-3 with a home run, and Combe also hit a home run.
From the circle, Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY) threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks to improve to 4-5 on the season.
Game Two: Purchase 15 , Yeshiva 0 ( 5 inn.)
The Panthers carried the momentum and erupted for seven runs in the opening frame of game two.
Salerno got things rolling with a bases-clearing single, driving in three runs to highlight a first inning that saw Purchase capitalize on multiple Yeshiva errors. Hernandez followed with a two-run single, and Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) capped the frame with an RBI double to left.
Purchase stayed hot in the second inning, tacking on six more runs. Jennings drove in a run with a single, Hernandez and Bronzi each added RBI hits, and Cameron Wright (FY/Portland, OR) and Sanchez both crossed home on defensive miscues.
In the third, Sanchez roped an RBI double down the left field line to make it 14-0, before Bronzi collected her fourth RBI of the game with another double in the fourth to cap the scoring.
Bronzi went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, three doubles, and a stolen base. Hernandez finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Salerno drove in three runs. Sanchez and Jennings each contributed two hits and two runs.
Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY) was dominant in the circle, tossing a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and zero walks to improve to 5-5 on the season.
Up next, the Blue and Orange will host the College at Old Westbury for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
