PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College softball dropped both games of a home doubleheader to the College at Old Westbury Sunday afternoon, falling 6-0 in game one and 14-0 in game two.
With the results, the Blue and Orange moved to 11-13 overall and 5-9 in the Skyline Conference, while the Panthers of Old Westbury improved to 16-16 and 6-6, respectively.
Between games, the Panthers honored head coach Mark Sergio, celebrating his 10th year leading the program, alongside former players, assistant coaches and the current team.
Game One: Old Westbury 6, Purchase 0 (7 inn.)
In the opener, Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY) started strong in the circle, but Old Westbury pushed across runs in the second and third innings before pulling away late.
The Panthers were limited to just one hit — a single by Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY).
Christopher (5-6) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, while Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY) finished the game in relief.
Game One: Old Westbury 14, Purchase 0 (7 inn.)
In game two, Old Westbury's offense erupted, scoring five runs in the third inning and seven more in the seventh.
Purchase managed three hits from Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY), Reddick and Devynn Hernandez (SO/Ossining, NY) but couldn't break through the visitors' defense.
From the circle, Goff (4-7) took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings before handing off to relievers Ava Knox (FY/Mahopac, NY) and Christopher.
The Panthers return to action on April 28th, traveling to the Bronx for a doubleheader at Lehman College. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
