BRONX, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team traveled to Fordham University's Bahoshy Softball Field Thursday night to take on the University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV) in a Skyline Conference doubleheader.
The Panthers dropped both games, falling to 11-15 overall and 5-11Â in the conference, while the Dolphins improved to 17-18 and 9-7, respectively.Â
Game One: UMSV 8, Purchase 0 (7Â inn.)
Despite a strong start from pitcher
Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY), the Blue and Orange were held scoreless in the opener. Goff (4-7) pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits before
Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY) entered in relief.
UMSV broke a scoreless tie in the fourth and pulled away with a five-run fifth inning to steal the game.Â
Offensively, the Panthers were limited to two hits—one each from
Sariah Sanchez (FY/Eastvale, CA) and
Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY).
Game Two: UMSV 10, Purchase 1 (6 inn.)
The hosts showed more spark in Game Two, keeping pace through four innings before a late-game surge by the Dolphins sealed the sweep.
Mel Harper (SO/East Patchogue, NY) put Purchase on the board with a fifth-inning RBI single that scored
Halle Greaige (SO/Rye Brook, NY).
Christopher (5-7) took the loss in the circle, while the Panthers tallied four hits in the effort.
Up next, the Blue and Orange will wrap up their regular season on May 2 with a home doubleheader against St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn. First pitch is set for 11 a.m., with Senior Day festivities taking place between games.
