PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team was defeated in the regular-season finale Thursday night, falling to Manhattanville University in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 26-24, 25-12 and 25-22.
With the finish, the Panthers moved to 17-16 overall and 10-8 in the Skyline Conference. For the Valiants, they now sit at 14-16 and 12-6, respectively.
As a result, these two teams will be back in action against each other next week, as Purchase travels to Manhattanville on April 8th for the first round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
For tonight, the Blue and Orange just couldn't get out of their own way, as errors plagued them throughout.
During the first frame, the hosts rallied from a 20-11 hole to make it 24-24 late, before finally succumbing to the visitors.
While the middle stanza was all Valiants, the final set was another comeback performance for the Panthers, before their luck just ran out.
Late in the set, Purchase trailed 23-14, until seven of the next eight points cut the margin to 24-22.
However, Manhattanville did just enough to emerge with the win.
Overall, the Blue and Orange finished with 30 kills on .091 hitting, while the guests compiled totals of 41 and .292, respectively.
Individually,
Channing Williams (SO/Neptune, NJ) led all players with 14 kills, four digs and two block assists.
Ayden Mercado (FY/Brooklyn, NY) added 28 assists, while
Scott Rogers (FY/Suffern, NY) totaled eight digs and an ace.
Up next for the Panthers is the previously mentioned matchup against the Valiants, as the two foes will battle in the first round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs.
That game is set for April 8th at 6 p.m. at Manhattanville.
