Baseball Drops Skyline Doubleheader

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team dropped a pair of contests Sunday afternoon, falling to Skyline Conference foe, Maritime College.

With the results, the Panthers moved to 8-15 overall and 5-3 in the league. For the Privateers, they now sit at 13-10 and 6-0, respectively.

Game One: Maritime 6, Purchase 4 (7 inn.)

The opening game saw the Blue and Orange fall into a hole early, as the guests drove home five runs in the first inning and six over the first two.

The hosts did manage lone runs in the first, second, fourth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome the quick start.

At the plate, the Panthers finished with nine hits, as Evan Biener (FY/Hillside, NJ) led the way with three hits, including a triple, an RBI and two runs.

Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) recorded two hits, while Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) tallied a hit, an RBI and a run.

On the mound, Myles Scarry (5th/Levittown, NY) tossed a complete game. He allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits over seven innings, while fanning five.

Game Two: Maritime 7, Purchase 2

The final game of the day played out similarly to the first, as the Privateers used a big lead early to set the tempo.

This time around, they scored four runs in the second inning and two more in the third to led 6-0, before a Purchase run in the bottom of third trimmed the margin.

It came courtesy of an RBI-double from Sinis, as he scored Scarry with ease.

However from there, the scoring slowed significantly as each side added just one more run the rest of the way.

For Purchase, that run came from Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) in the bottom of the ninth, as the first baseman drilled a solo home run over the left field wall. The hit was significant, as it marked his 150th career hit in just 101 games.

Overall, the Panthers recorded eight hits in the effort, as Daly, Scarry and Frank Rega (JR/West Islip, NY) each had two apiece.

On the hill, Christian Miesegaes (SO/Staten Island, NY) was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits over two innings.

In relief, Brandon Reybok (JR/Lindenhurst, NY) went six innings and allowed just one run on two hits.

Up next for the squad is a quick turnaround, as they take on John Jay College tomorrow (4/7) on the road. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
