WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated Monday afternoon, falling to John Jay College in a single non-conference contest, 15-9.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 8-16 overall and the Bloodhounds moved to 9-9.Â
The Blue and Orange scored first on the day, as
Liam Daly (JR/Babylon, NY) drilled an RBI-double in the first inning.
The hosts then tied things up at 1-all in the second, before Purchase responded with four runs in the third.
From there, the guests continued to lead or at least be tied with John Jay until the fifth inning, when the Bloodhounds used a three-run frame to grab the lead, 9-8.
They then followed up with a six-run sixth inning to pad the margin, as they went on to seal the victory, 15-9.
Overall, the Panthers finished with eight hits, as Daly led the way with three hits, four RBIs, a run and two stolen bases.
Mason Compton (SR/Carmel, NY) continued his hot streak with two more hits and a run, while
Panos Sinis (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) walked four times and scored two runs.
On the mound, it was a committee approach, as the Blue and Orange used six pitchers and no one went longer than two innings.
Kyan Zamaniyan (SO/Smithtown, NY) earned the start, going two innings and allowing just one run on three hits.
In relief,
Joshua Huerta (FY/Queens, NY) was tagged with the loss as he allowed six runs in an inning of work.
Up next for Purchase is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Farmingdale State College on April 12th for a doubleheader. First pitch is at noon.
