Purchase Celebrates Duo on Senior Day

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team celebrated its two graduating seniors Sunday afternoon, as the squad was bested by Rhode Island College on Senior Day.

The final score in the contest was 17-1, as the loss dropped the Panthers to 0-7 overall. For the Anchorwomen, they moved to 1-5.

Before the game began, the Blue and Orange welcomed the friends and family of Amani Jamal (Hopewell Junction, NY) and Delece Kerr (Jamaica, NY), as they exchanged gifts, took pictures and words were spoken about each player.

Following the ceremony, the focus shifted to the task at hand - Rhode Island College.

From the very beginning, the guests were locked in and would not be denied in the effort, as they scored five goals in the first quarter and seven more in the second to lead at halftime.

After the break, Catie Chios (SO/Westbury, NY) broke the scoring streak, as she notched the Panthers' lone goal of the day on a solo effort with just over five minutes remaining in the third.

Overall, Purchase finished with six shots, seven draw controls and 16 grounds balls in the effort.

Julieth Velasquez (JR/White Plains, NY) led the offensive charge with four shots (two on goal), five ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover.

Chios tallied two draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball, while Analie Ingalsbe (SR/West Hurley, NY) collected three draw controls and two ground balls.

For the seniors, Jamal recorded 17 saves, one ground ball and one caused turnover in net, and Kerr played the entire contest on defense without a stat.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the squad hosts Maritime College on April 9th at 6 p.m.
