Where Are They Now? Bill Guerrero

PURCHASE, N.Y. - "Where are they now?" is a monthly feature story that highlights Panthers from the past and what they have been up to since leaving Purchase.

Our next feature is former coach and administrator Bill Guerrero, who recently returned to his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Financial Affairs.

Guerrero was the founding head coach of the Purchase baseball program, starting it in 2000 and guiding it from club status to varsity competition. He stepped down in 2013 after the team's best season in school history, finishing 23-19 and reaching the ECAC Metro Championship Final. That same year, he was named both Skyline Conference Coach of the Year and Purchase College Coach of the Year.

During his 11-year run, Guerrero coached the program's first All-American Ronald Echavarria, multiple All-Region and All-Conference selections, and future professionals, including NCAA stolen base champion Michael Sarni and Pitcher of the Year Miller Lulow. In total, his players earned:
  • 1 All-American honor

  • 7 All-Region selections

  • 27 All-Conference nods

  • 2 Conference Pitchers of the Year

  • 1 Conference Player of the Year

In addition to baseball, Guerrero briefly coached women's volleyball and softball.

Guerrero's also served as Executive Director of the Purchase College Association, Inc from 1999-2013. Under his leadership, the PCA became a $17 million auxiliary services operation, including the successful launch of Purchase Park 2 Fly, which provided vital non-tuition revenue for the campus. His impact was recognized in 2011 with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Professional Service.

Now returning to his roots at UConn, Guerrero will oversee athletic business operations, bringing more than 25 years of experience in higher education finance and athletics. His new role focuses on strategic fiscal leadership as collegiate sports continue to evolve rapidly.

Purchase College Athletic Director Chris Bisignano had nothing but praise for Guerrero: "Bill was the pioneer of our baseball program and it's incredible to see how he's grown from our head baseball coach to seeing him now step into a senior leadership role at UConn. We're so proud of him and we wish him all the best!"

Congratulations, Bill — once a Panther, always a Panther!
