PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in a non-conference matchup Thursday evening, falling to Brooklyn College in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-22, 25-12 and 25-14. With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-4 overall, while the Bulldogs jumped to 2-2.
The opening frame saw the tightest action of the night, as the two sides were neck and neck until late.
With the score tied at 18-all, the guests pulled ahead with four-straight points, before the Blue and Orange responded with a trio of their own to make it 22-21.
However, that was as close as they got the rest of the way, as Brooklyn pulled out the win, 25-22.
From there, the visitors bounced back and controlled the final two frames with relative ease to claim victory.
Overall, Purchase finished with 23 kills on .041 hitting, while the Bulldogs totaled 29 and .163, respectively.
Individually,
Marcella Pena (JR/Bronx, NY) tallied a team-high eight kills and 12 digs.
Natalia Leite (JR/Thornwood, NY) added 18 assists and nine digs, while
Maya Brown (JR/Carteret, NJ) chipped in three kills, two aces and nine digs in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is another home non-conference matchup, as the squad hosts St. Elizabeth University on September 16th at 7 p.m.
