PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated at home Tuesday night, falling to Saint Elizabeth University in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-9, 25-21 and 25-19. With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-5 overall, while the Eagles landed at 4-5.
While the first set went decisively in favor of the guests, the second frame was a close battle throughout.
In fact, the Blue and Orange held the advantage for a decent amount of the stanza, even leading late by the score of 19-15.
However, the hitting of the Eagles soon kicked in and Purchase just couldn't match the effort as it ultimately fell.
The third set once again saw the hosts lead early on, this time 13-7, before a big run from Saint Elizabeth turned that margin into a lead. In the end, the guests did just enough to escape with the set and match win.
Overall, the Panthers totaled 21 kills on .085 hitting, while the Eagles recorded 35 and .222, respectively.
Individually,
Sadie Weiss (SO/Bronx, NY) finished with a team-high nine points (seven kills, two aces) and eight digs.
Natalia Leite (JR/Thornwood, NY) chipped in 13 assists, eight digs and three kills, while
Darlene Baez (FY/Bronx, NY) added a match-high 12 digs.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is another non-conference home matchup, as they host The City College of New York on September 18th at 7 p.m.
