Panthers Bested by Baruch, 1-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was thwarted at home Friday night, falling to Baruch College by the score of 1-0.

With the non-conference result, the Panthers dropped to 3-2 overall, while the Bearcats now sit at 1-2-2.

The lone score of the contest came in the 17th minute off a corner kick as the guests caught the Blue and Orange sleeping on defense.

As Purchase attempted to line-up for the chance, Baruch pulled a fast one by taking the short kick, dribbling in and then unleashing a shot. By the time the hosts realized, it was too late as the ball soared into the top right corner of the goal.

For the Panthers, the offense tried to respond the rest of the night as the Bearcat backline held on for dear life. In the end, the hosts attempted nine shots (two on goal) but none crossed the threshold.

The best opportunity came in the 51st minute when Felix Robinson (SO/Bronx, NY) beat the keeper off a gorgeous free kick. However, it was just a tad high and ricocheted off the crossbar downwards, nearly crossing the goal line, before bouncing out of harm's way.

In the end, Purchase left the field with the loss despite its offense producing 12 corner kicks to just one for the guests.

In goal, Nicholas Sheridan (FY/Ansonia, CT) was tagged with the loss.

Up next for the Panthers is the Skyline Conference opener, as the squad travels to face Yeshiva University on September 14th at 3:30 p.m.
