PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team dominated their home turf Wednesday evening, shutting out York College 4-0.
With the results, the Panthers improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline Conference while the Cardinals dropped to 0-3.
The Blue and Orange dominated from start to finish, firing 59 shots and kept the visitors under constant pressure. Lindita Selmani (JR/Brooklyn, NY) opened the scoring in the 11th minute when her shot slipped through the goalkeeper's hands and tucked into the top right corner. Selmani went on to add a second goal in the 70th minute, finishing with a strong two-goal, one-assist performance.
In between, Purchase leaned on fellow striker Lilah Hall (FY/Danville, VT), who buried back-to-back goals in the 48th and 69th minutes. Hall paced the offense with 15 shots and 8 on target, while Bailey Carlon (SR/Gilbert, AZ) added an assist and 19 shots of her own to fuel the attack.
The defense stood tall as well, anchored by Carolyn Hough (SR/Massapequa, NY) in goal. Hough needed just two saves to earn the shutout, thanks to steady play along the back line from Angela Holness (JR/Newburgh, NY) and Saige Navara (SO/Hurley, NY).
The Blue and Orange look to carry the momentum into their conference match at United States Merchant Marine Academy on September 20th. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
