KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team was unable to overcome an early surge by the United States Merchant Marine Academy, falling 5-0 in Skyline Conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the result, Purchase moved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Skyline play, while Kings Point improved to 3-3-1 and 3-0, respectively.
USMMA struck four times in the opening half to take control, before adding a fifth goal in the 75th minute. Despite the scoreline, the Panthers worked hard on both sides of the field and put three shots on goal, including two by Lindita Selmani (JR/Brooklyn, NY) and one from Katherine Lasky (FY/Lancaster, NY).
In net, the Panthers leaned heavily on their goalkeepers, as Carolyn Hough (SR/Massapequa, NY) tallied 13 saves in 59 minutes of action, while Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY) added four stops in relief. The defense, anchored by Maggie Obman (JR/Scotia, NY), Elyza Colon (JR/Bronx, NY) and Saige Navara (SO/Hurley, NY), stood firm under pressure as USMMA recorded 44 shots in the contest.
Up next, the Battle of Anderson Hill Road returns as the Blue and Orange host Manhattanville at home on September 24th, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
