Panthers Unable to Turn Tide Against Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team fought hard but couldn't overcome Skyline Conference rival, Manhattanville University, falling 3-0 on Wednesday evening.

With the results, the Panthers dropped 2-4 overall and 1-2-0 in the Skyline, while the guests moved to 3-3 and 2-0 overall.

The home team struggled to generate offense early, while Manhattanville struck first in the 29th minute to put the Valiants ahead 1-0. The guests then added two insurance goals in the second half to secure the 3-0 final.

Purchase goalkeeper Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY) made 11 saves, keeping the Blue and Orange within striking distance, but the team was unable to capitalize on limited chances highlighted by attempts from Julieth Velasquez (SR/White Plains, NY) and Lindita Selmani (JR/Brooklyn, NY).

The Panthers' back line, anchored by Maggie Obman (JR/Scotia, NY), Angela Holness (JR/Newburgh, NY) and Saige Navara (SO/Hurley, NY) absorbed heavy pressure throughout the match and kept Purchase in contention deep into the second half.

The Panthers will look to rebound on September 27th as they return to their home field for their Morgan's Message game against St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 2:30 p.m.
