Panthers Bested at USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was stopped on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a Skyline Conference matchup to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 4-1.

With the result, the Panthers are now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the league. For the Mariners, they moved to 5-2-1 and 2-0, respectively.

The hosts struck first, as they found the back of the net in the 18th minute.

However, it was short lived as the Blue and Orange responded less than a minute later, when Parker Lewis (FY/Binghamton, NY) netted the equalizer.

The rest of the contest was all USMMA though, as they later regained the lead in the 37th minute, before adding two more goals in the second half to secure the win.

Overall, Purchase finished with 11 shots, including five on goal. Individually, Yahir Tafoya (SO/Mount Vernon, NY) chipped in four shots (three on goal).

In net, Nicholas Sheridan (FY/Ansonia, CT) recorded a career-high nine saves in the effort.

Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline road action as the squad travels to Manhattanville University on September 24th. That game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
