PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in its season opener Thursday night, falling to Albertus Magnus College in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-23, 25-11 and 25-16. With the result, the Panthers moved to 0-1, while the Falcons jumped to 2-1.
The opening frame saw the closest action, as the two sides were neck and neck throughout.
As the stanza neared its conclusion, the Blue and Orange held the advantage, 23-20, before the visitors rallied off five-straight points to seal the frame.
With the set advantage, Albertus seemingly locked-in the rest of the night, as the hosts just couldn't match their offensive output over the final two sets.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 23 kills on .000 hitting, while the Falcons tallied 32 kills on .209 hitting.
Individually,
Maya Brown (JR/Carteret, NJ) led Purchase with eight kills and seven digs.
Natalia Leite (JR/Thornwood, NY) added 18 assists and five digs, while
Darlene Baez (FY/Bronx, NY) collected a team-high nine digs in her collegiate debut.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is the first tri-match of the year, as they travel to Utica this weekend to take on SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Poly. The first matchup will be on September 6th at 1 p.m.
