Women's Volleyball Bested in SUNY Tri-Match

UTICA, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team lost to a pair of SUNY foes Saturday afternoon, falling to Potsdam and Poly in back-to-back contests.

Game One: Potsdam 3, Purchase 0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-16)

The opening contest of the day did not favor the Panthers, as the Bears of Potsdam controlled the action throughout.

As a squad, the Blue and Orange produced just 14 kills on a negative hitting percentage. Individually, Maya Brown (JR/Carteret, NJ) finished with a team-best four kills.

Natalia Leite (JR/Thornwood, NY) added eight assists, while Marcella Pena (JR/Bronx, NY) collected a match-high 10 digs in the effort.

Game Two: Poly 3, Purchase 1 (25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17)

The second contest saw the guests improve, as they won their first set of the season.

However, it was not enough to best the Wildcats of Poly, as the hosts raced out to a quick two sets to none lead, thanks to a tight win in frame two.

In the third stanza, Purchase used an early match run to stack up a 9-1 advantage, before carrying the sizable margin the rest of the way.

Overall, the Panthers finished with 22 kills on -.060 hitting, as Pena and Sadie Weiss (SO/Bronx, NY) each finished with a team-high seven kills.

Leite tied her season-high in assists with 18, while Brown led the squad in digs with 20.

With the results, the Blue and Orange moved to 0-3 on the young season.

Up next for Purchase is more non-conference road action as the squad takes on Lehman College on September 8th at 7 p.m.
