Purchase Completes Comeback at UMSV

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team secured a comeback win Saturday afternoon, besting the University of Mount Saint Vincent by the score of 74-71.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in the Skyline Conference. For the Dolphins, they dropped to 1-11 and 1-3, respectively.

Over the 40-minute performance, the two sides traded the lead back and forth seven times and were tied seven times, as the game turned into a battle early.

Despite the close nature, the hosts still raced out to a sizable margin in the first half, leading by as many as 14 points before settling for a seven-point halftime lead.

Following the break, the Blue and Orange really turned on their comeback performance as they keep the contest a two-possession game the rest of the half.

Even still, it wasn't until the final minute approached that the guests finally grabbed the lead for good, as Desmond Ward's (SR/Queens, NY) layup with 1:08 left put Purchase in front, 73-71.

The Panthers' defense did the rest as it held Mount Saint Vincent scoreless the rest of the contest to escape with the win.

Overall, Purchase shot 41.2 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from long range, as both totals outpaced the hosts.

While the rebounding battle favored the Dolphins, the Blue and Orange won the turnover battle by three to help fuel the victory.

Individually, Maurice Western (FY/Bronx, NY) enjoyed a breakout, record-setting day as he finished with a team-high 20 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Ricky Rollins (JR/Schenectady, NY) continued to roll as he added 19 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and two steals, while Trey Skeete (SR/Brooklyn, NY) chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Up next for the Blue and Orange is a road matchup at Yeshiva University on January 14th at 8 p.m.
