PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team opened the 2026 season Tuesday afternoon by splitting a tri-match with Elms College and Lehman College.
Game One: Elms 3, Purchase 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-10)
In the opening match of the day, the Panthers fell in straight sets to the Blazers after finishing with a negative hitting percentage in the effort.
Overall, the hosts finished with 11 kills in the contest, while
Udel Phillips (JR/Far Rockaway, NY) led the way with four kills and a block assist.
Danny Kanner (FY/Smithtown, NY) in his collegiate debut recorded team-high totals in assists (10) and digs (9), while
Scott Rogers (SO/Suffern, NY) chipped in two kills, an ace and five digs.
Game Two: Elms 3, Lehman 0
Game Three: Purchase 3, Lehman 2 (22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-6)
The final contest of the day saw the Blue and Orange rally back from a 2-0 hole early to secure a comeback win over the Lightning of Lehman College.
In the victory, the Panthers recorded 49 kills on .102 hitting, including match-high .579 hitting percentage in the fifth and final frame.
For the guests, they totaled 32 kills on .007 hitting.
Individually,
Jael Martinez (JR/Bronx, NY) powered the effort with 18 kills and 14 digs.
Phillips finished right on his heels with 16 kills, a solo block and a block assist, while Rogers added nine kills and 16 digs.
Kanner added a career-high 44 assists, while
Joey Toscano (SO/Levittown, NY) totaled a match-high 19 digs in the win.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is more home action as the squad welcomes MIT on January 16th at 7 p.m.
