PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team was defeated at home Friday night, falling to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-18.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-2 on the year, while the Engineers opened the season at 1-0.
On the night, the Blue and Orange totaled 17 kills on a negative hitting percentage. For the guests, they doubled the kill total with 34 and hit .391.
The first set saw the closest action, as the two sides battled back and forth to a 10-10 tie early on. MIT then responded with seven-straight points to grab firm control in the frame and on the night.
Individually,
Udel Phillips (JR/Far Rockaway, NY) led Purchase with seven points (five kills and two aces), while
Jael Martinez (JR/Bronx, NY) added six kills.
Danny Kanner (FY/Smithtown, NY) collected 14 assists, and
Joey Toscano (SO/Levittown, NY) tallied eight digs.
Up next for the squad is more non-conference action as it welcomes New Jersey City University on January 20th at 7 p.m.
