PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team cruised to an easy win Saturday afternoon, besting SUNY Old Westbury by the score of 74-55.
With the result, the Blue and Orange Panthers moved to 5-11 overall and 3-4 in the Skyline Conference. For the visiting Panthers, they dropped to 4-12 and 2-4, respectively.
In the first half, the contest was a close one as the hosts actually trailed at the break, 31-30.
Once the second half began though, it was all Purchase as the squad outpaced Old Westbury, 44-24.
Overall, the hosts shot 44.6 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from long range in the victory. For the guests, they finished with marks of 44.0 and 46.7 percent, respectively.
The major differences on the day came on rebounds (34-29) and turnovers (24-17), as the Blue and Orange won both battles with relative ease.
The Purchase starting line-up combined for 68 of the team's 74 points, as
Trey Skeete (SR/Brooklyn, NY) led the way with a team-high 16 points. He also added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) collected 15 points, eight rebounds and eight steals, while
Ricky Rollins (JR/Schenectady, NY) chipped in 15 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Up next for the squad is a road Skyline matchup at Farmingdale State College on January 20th at 7 p.m.
