PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team was defeated at home Friday night, falling to Hunter College in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-12. With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-4 overall, while the Hawks opened the year at 1-0.
Despite the loss, the Blue and Orange hit the ball well in performance as they finished with 24 kills on .206 hitting. For the guests, they bested those numbers at 33 and .354, respectively.
One key difference in the matchup was aces, which Hunter won 16-8. The category also provided momentum swings for the Hawks as they used them prevail over the three frames.
Individually,
Udel Phillips (JR/Far Rockaway, NY) finished with a team-high 11 points (eight kills and three aces).
Hector Ruiz (SO/Bronx, NY) added six kills and three aces, while
Danny Kanner (FY/Smithtown, NY) collected 17 assists and five digs.
Up next for the Panthers is the beginning of a four-game road trip, as they first take on Baruch College on January 27th at 7 p.m.
