Panthers Drop Pair at Tri-Match

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team dropped two contests Saturday afternoon, falling to Bard College and Hartwick College in extra sets.

Game One: Bard 3, Purchase 1 (15-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20)

After winning the initial frame with relative ease, the Blue and Orange failed to maintain their hitting groove in the match.

While the guests finished with more kills (42-40), the Raptors outhit them in the win, .183 percent to .169.

Individually, Luca Valeriano (FY/Bronx, NY) led the Panthers with 15.5 points, 11 kills and three aces.

Danny Kanner (FY/Smithtown, NY) totaled 29 assists, while Joey Toscano (SO/Levittown, NY) added 14 digs. 

Game Two: Hartwick 3, Purchase 2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-10)

In the second game, Purchase went back and forth with the Hawks as they traded sets.

For the Panthers, the second frame was their best of the afternoon as they recorded 14 kills on .263 hitting.

Individually, Udel Phillips (JR/Far Rockaway, NY) and Hector Ruiz (SO/Bronx, NY) each finished with a team-high 14.5 points.

Kanner tallied 36 more assists, while also leading the squad in digs with 13. 

With the losses, the Panthers moved to 1-6 on the year.

Up next for the Blue and Orange is more non-conference road action as the team takes on John Jay College on February 12th at 7 p.m.
