OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball team cruised to a win Saturday afternoon, besting SUNY Old Westbury by the score of 66-42.
With the win, the Panthers moved to 8-9 overall and 7-5 in the Skyline Conference. For the hosts, they dropped to 2-12 and 1-11, respectively.
From the beginning of the contest, the guests were in the driver's seat and never looked back. After 10 minutes, the score was 10-5 and by halftime it was 26-10.
However, Purchase saved its best for last as it put up 28 points in the fourth quarter to earn the 24-point win.
Overall, the Blue and Orange shot 35.2 percent, while the hosting Panthers converted just 25.2 percent of their shots.
In the end, points off turnovers was key to the win as the guests outpaced Old Westbury, 26-9, in the category.
Individually,
Halle Greaige (JR/Rye Brook, NY) lead the way with a team-high 15 points, five rebounds and two steals in just 18 minutes.
Kaylena Steiner (JR/Fresno, CA) added 10 points and seven rebounds, while
Charlize Giles (SO/Yonkers, NY) collected two points, five assists and four steals in just six minutes.
Up next for the squad is more Skyline action, as the team hosts St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on January 28th at 7 p.m.
