Panthers Cruise to Senior Night Victory

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team concluded the regular season with a big win Wednesday night, as it blew past the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Senior Night.

The final score on the evening was 94-72.

With the win, the Panthers finished the year 11-14 overall and 9-7 in the Skyline Conference. For the Dolphins, they moved to 3-21 overall and 2-13 in the league.

Before the contest began, the Blue and Orange took time to celebrate their three graduating seniors - Trey Skeete (Brooklyn, NY), Chris Hunter (Charlotte, NC) and Nate Maldonado (Bronx, NY) - for Senior Night.

The trio was celebrated at center court with a ceremony, gifts and photos with family. After the festivities, the squad quickly turned its attention to the game at hand.

On the night, the hosts led from start to finish as they controlled the tempo early and never looked back.

In the first half, they led by as many as 20 points before they settled for a 52-35 advantage at halftime.

Following the break, Mount Saint Vincent did respond and trim the margin to just six points with approximately 14 minutes to go.

But the Blue and Orange would not be denied, and responded with a 13-0 run to extend the margin back to an insurmountable amount.

In the end, Purchase won by its biggest lead of the day and sailed into the Skyline playoffs on a two-game winning streak. While the Panthers had already sealed their spot in the playoffs, tonight's win potentially helps with seeding.

Overall, the hosts shot 47.3 percent from the field and 25.9 percent from long range, while the guests totaled 39.1 percent and 23.8 percent, respectively.

The Panthers dominated in the paint all evening as they outscored UMSV on points in the paint, 56-34 and won the rebounding battle, 53-36.

Individually, Sean Holzman (JR/Putnam Valley, NY) led the way with 21 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

Maurice Western (FY/Bronx, NY) chipped in 16 points, three steals and three assists, while Skeete tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists in his final home game.

Amar Jackson (JR/Brooklyn, NY) collected eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds, and Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Up next for the squad is the First Round of the Skyline playoffs, which will take place on February 24th on the road. Tune in on Saturday night to find out the opponent and the time of the game.
