Panthers Roll at MSMC, 69-54

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team rolled to a big win Saturday afternoon, besting Mount Saint Mary College by the score of 69-54.

With the result, the Panthers are now 9-13 overall and 7-6 in the Skyline Conference. For the Knights, they dropped to 2-19 and 0-12, respectively.

On the day, the Blue and Orange nearly led the entire way, outside of the opening basket. In the first half, the lead was big as eight points, before it was 24-19 at the break.

Following halftime, the Panthers erupted to the tune of 45 points over the 20-minute period.

As a result, Purchase maintained its lead, even as Mount Saint Mary kept things within striking distance. It wasn't until the final five minutes that the guests pulled away for good, leading by as many as 19 points.

Overall, Purchase shot 37.3 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from long range. For the hosts, they finished at 31.8 and 9.7 percent, respectively.

Individually, five players finished in double figures, as Sean Holzman (JR/Putnam Valley, NY) and Nate Maldonado (SR/Bronx, NY) led with 13 points apiece.

Trey Skeete (SR/Brooklyn, NY) and Desmond Ward (SR/Queens, NY) added 12 points each, while Chris Hunter (SR/Charlotte, NC) put up the rare triple-double as he collected 10 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.

Up next for the Panthers is the final road game of the season, as the squad travels to Sarah Lawrence College on February 10th at 7 p.m.
