Softball Soars in Season-Opening Wins

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team soared to a pair of wins Sunday afternoon, besting Yeshiva University by the scores of 14-0 and 17-0.

With the results, the Panthers moved to 2-0 overall and in the Skyline Conference. For the Macs, they dropped to 0-5 and 0-2, respectively.

Game One: Purchase 14, Yeshiva 0 (5 inn.)

During the opening contest, the Blue and Orange started quickly by scoring nine runs in the first inning. By the third, the score had jumped to 14-0.

In total, the hosts had 10 hits, as Sam Christopher (JR/North Babylon, NY), Bryce Kane (FY/Westborough, MA) and Halle Greaige (JR/Rye Brook, NY) each tallied two apiece.

On the mound, Kane tossed a no hitter in her collegiate debut. She went five innings, allowing just two walks against 12 strikeouts. 

Game Two: Purchase 17, Yeshiva 0 (5 inn.)

The second game played out nearly identical to the first, as the Panthers scored 10 runs in the first inning. After two innings, it was 16-0.

In total, the Blue and Orange totaled 14 hits as five players recorded multi-hit games. Greaige led the way with three hits, including two doubles.

Liv Goff (JR/Syracuse, NY) earned the win as the starting pitcher. She went four innings, allowing just one hit against eight strikeouts.

Up next for the squad is more home action, as it hosts Lehman College for a doubleheader on March 19th at 3:30 p.m.
