PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team earned a pair of wins Thursday afternoon, as it swept Lehman College by the scores of 8-0 and 11-0.
With the wins, the Panthers are now 4-0 overall. For the Lightning, they dropped to 1-4.
Game One: Purchase 8, Lehman 0 (5 inn.)
In the opening contest, the hosts got on the board in the second inning with four runs, before adding pairs of runs in the third and fourth to power the victory.
The highlight of the performance came late when
Tyler Salerno (JR/Kings Park, NY) hit a solo inside-the-park home run to make it 7-0.
In the end, Purchase recorded eight hits at the plate. Salerno and
Natalie Gallo (FY/West Haven, CT) led the way with two hits and two RBIs apiece.
On the mound,
Sam Christopher (JR/North Babylon, NY) went five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit against five strikeouts.
Game Two: Purchase 11, Lehman 0 (5 inn.)
The second outing of the day was even more one-sided, as the Blue and Orange scored in all four innings this time around.
The biggest explosions came in the third and fourth as they scored four runs apiece in the frames.
In the end, Purchase plated 11 runs on just seven hits.
Sariah Sanchez (SO/Eastvale, CA) led the way with three hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run.
Christopher had a triple, three RBIs and a run scored, while
Arielle Reddick (SO/Fishkill, NY) finished with a hit, two RBIs, two runs and a walk.
In the pitching circle,
Liv Goff (JR/Syracuse, NY) tossed a one-hit, five-inning complete game as she struckout eight in the victory.
Up next for the squad is a matchup with Baruch College on March 21st, starting at noon. The games will be played at Purchase, but the Panthers will be considered the road team.
