PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated at home Tuesday night, falling to Centenary University by the score of 17-3.
With the result, the Panthers are now 0-2 on the year, while the Cyclones jumped to 3-2.
The hosts started the scoring early as
Catie Chios (JR/Westbury, NY) scored an up-goal just over three minutes into the action.
From there, the guests scored six in a row, before
Julieth Velasquez (SR/White Plains, NY) stopped the run with a solo effort in the second quarter.
By halftime, the score was 10-2.
In the second half, the Blue and Orange scored once more on a solo effort from Chios to cap their scoring on the night.
In total, Centenary outshot Purchase, 32-7 overall and 17-3 on goal.
Individually, Velasquez fueled the effort with the goal, 12 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and five draw controls.Â
Chios added the two goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while
Ashley Santiago (SO/Poughkeepsie, NY) collected two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
In goal,
Savannah Haynes (FY/Yonkers, NY) finished with seven saves and a ground ball.
Up next for the Panthers is the beginning of Skyline Conference play, as the squad travels to St. Joseph's University-Long Island on March 21st at 3 p.m.
