PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated in the Skyline Conference opener Saturday afternoon, falling to the St. Joseph's University-Long Island by the score of 22-5.
With the result, the Panthers are now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the league. For the Golden Eagles, they improved to 1-6 and 1-0, respectively.
On the day, the hosts scored early and often, as they lead 7-1 after the first, and 15-2 by halftime.
Julieth Velasquez (SR/White Plains, NY) paced the Blue and Orange with four goals, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and 12 draw controls.
Jill Creegan (SO/High Falls, NY) added a goal, a ground ball and a draw control, while
Catie Chios (JR/Westbury, NY) had the Panthers' lone assist.
In goal,
Savannah Haynes (FR/Yonkers, NY) recorded four saves and two ground balls in the effort.
Up next for Purchase is a home matchup with the University of Mount Saint Vincent on March 24 at 6 p.m.
