PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated at home Tuesday evening, falling to the University of Mount Saint Vincent by the score of 17-2.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Skyline Conference. For the Dolphins, they moved to 1-4 and 1-1, respectively.
To begin the game, the Blue and Orange scored two of the first five goals to keep the contest close early.
Julieth Velasquez (SR/White Plains, NY) opened the scoring with a solo effort in the first quarter, before
Bernie Seweryn (SO/Brooklyn, NY) knocked in the second strike early in the second.
From there though, the contest was all Mount Saint Vincent as they closed out the game on a 14-0 run.
Overall, the Dolphins outshot Purchase, 34-11, in the win.
Individually, Velasquez powered the effort with one goal on three shots, while grabbing seven ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Annelise Durkin (JR/Mattituck, NY) totaled three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover, while Seweryn finished with the goal, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
In goal,
Savannah Haynes (FY/Yonkers, NY) tallied eight saves and two ground balls.Â
Up next for the squad is a non-conference matchup at Albertus Magnus College on March 27th at 4 p.m.
