Baseball Rallies Against Cobleskill, 6-5

PURCHASE, N.Y. - In the final contest before the Florida Spring Break trip, the Purchase College baseball team rallied for a win over SUNY Cobleskill Wednesday afternoon, 6-5.

With the result, the Panthers are now 3-7 overall. For the Fighting Tigers, they dropped to 1-6.

On the day, Cameron Cruz (JR/Throggs Neck, NY) got things started with a two-run single in the second.

During the third and fifth innings, the guests gained the lead after scoring five unanswered runs. However, the bottom of the fifth saw the hosts rally back as they scored a trio in the frame.

The first came off an RBI-double from Tyler Della Mura (SR/Rye Brook, NY), before Patrick Reyes (SR/Plainedge, NY) hit an RBI-single during the next at-bat.

Two batters later, Kyle Coy (SO/Brooklyn, NY) tied the game on an infield single to make it 5-5.

After a scoreless sixth, the Blue and Orange grabbed the lead for good in the seventh after scoring a run off an error that extended the inning.

From there, the Purchase bullpen was locked in and did not allow a hit the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Overall, the Panthers tallied eight hits, as Cruz, Reyes and Coy each finished with a pair in the effort.

On the hill, Sean Fanning (FY/Smithtown, NY) got the start and went three innings in the no-decision outing. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts.

In relief, Anthony Ciccone (JR/South Salem, NY) earned his first career win after two perfect innings, while Isaiah Rubin-Patel (JR/Brooklyn, NY) earned the save.

Up next for the squad is the Florida trip, which begins on March 21st and runs through the 25th.
