PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team secured two wins to open Skyline Conference play Saturday, as they bested SUNY Old Westbury by the scores of 5-4 and 13-6.
With the wins, the Panthers are now 8-10 overall and 2-0 in the league. For the visitors, they dropped to 5-7 and 1-3, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 5, Old Westbury 4 (7 inn.)
The opening game of the weekend saw the hosts walk-it off, thanks to an RBI-double from
Patrick Reyes (SR/Plainedge, NY).
In fact, Purchase entered the seventh trailing, 4-1, before
Cameron Cruz (JR/Throggs Neck, NY) and
Michael Pagano (FY/Franklin Square, NY) knocked in three runs to tie things up.
During the following at-bat, Reyes played the role of hero as he drove in the winning tally.
In total, the Panthers had 10 hits on the day, including three apiece from Cruz and Reyes.
On the mound,
Brandon Reybok (SR/Lindenhurst, NY) continued to shine as he pitched a complete-game win. Over seven innings, he allowed four runs on nine hits, while striking out three.
Game Two: Purchase 13, Old Westbury 6
Following the excitement of the first game, the second contest had the tension removed late as Purchase turned a 6-5 deficit in the fifth inning into a 13-6 win by the ninth.
Overall, the Blue and Orange bats exploded for 18 hits in the offensive performance. Pagano powered the effort with four hits, including two home runs, three RBIs and four runs.
Liam Daly (SR/Babylon, NY) tallied three hits, including two doubles, two RBIs and a walk, while four other Panthers had multi-hit games.
On the hill,
Christian Miesegaes (JR/Staten Island, NY) went seven innings in the win. He allowed six runs (five earned) on 11 hits with three K's.
Up next for the squad is more home Skyline action as they host Mount Saint Mary College on March 29th at 11 a.m.
