THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's lacrosse team kicked off the 2026 season with a loss Wednesday evening, falling to SUNY Cobleskill by the score of 11-8.
With the result, the Panthers start the year 0-1, while the Fighting Tigers open at 1-0.
In the first quarter,
Ryan Haberski (FY/Saugerties, NY) got things started with a strike two minutes in.
The guests then responded with a pair of goals, before the Blue and Orange closed the frame with three-straight goals, courtesy of Haberski,
Davindra Deonarain (FY/Bronx, NY) and
Zach Scott (SO/West Babylon, NY) to lead 4-2.
In the second, the two sides traded goal totals, as Cobleskill outpaced Purchase, 4-2, to tie things at halftime.
Following the break, the scoring slowed down tremendously as the third quarter saw just one goal apiece from each side.
It wasn't until the final 15 minutes of the night that things started to quickly change in the Fighting Tigers' favor.
The quarter started with two quick, back-to-back man-up goals to give them some breathing room at 9-7. From there, they added two strikes midway through the frame to all but seal the win.
Haberski added his third tally late, as he found the back of the net with just over a minute to go, making it 11-8, where it would finish.
In the end, Cobleskill outpaced the hosts in most categories, winning in shots, clear attempts, ground balls and face offs, while the Panthers were slightly cleaner with the ball.
Individually, Haberski led the squad with the three goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Scott also finished with three points (two goals, one assist), three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while
Kevon Joseph (SR/Brooklyn, NY) and
Chandler Redwood (JR/Dayton, OH) each recorded a goal and an assist in the effort.
In goal,
TJ Pasqualini (SO/West Harrison, NY) totaled 13 saves.
The contest, while a "home" game for the Panthers, was played at Maritime College due to a lighting issue at our field.
Up next for the squad is a home contest with Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on March 14th at noon.
