PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated in the 2026 season opener Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of contests to St. Lawrence University.
With the result, the Panthers start the year 0-2, while the Saints moved to 3-2.
Game One: St. Lawrence 3, Purchase 0 (7 inn.)
In the first contest, the guests got things started with an RBI-double in the second inning, before they doubled that margin in fourth.
The game remained 2-0 into the seventh, until the Saints added a final run to make it 3-0.
For the hosts, they loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but a great defensive play kept the Panthers scoreless.
Overall, the Blue and Orange finished with four hits, while starting pitcher
Brandon Reybok (SR/Lindenhurst, NY) was tagged with the defeat.
He allowed two runs on four hits over four innings, while striking out five.
Game Two: St. Lawrence 5, Purchase 3 (7 inn.)
The second game of the day started out on the opposite foot for Purchase, as
Frank Rega (SR/West Islip, NY) crushed a three-run double in the first inning to secure an early lead.
From there, the hosts remained in front until the sixth, after St. Lawrence scored a pair of runs in the fifth and three more one inning later.
Now trailing, the Panthers once again loaded the bases, this time with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. But once again, the defense of the Saints held firm and they got the out needed to steal the win.
Overall, the Blue and Orange outpaced the visiting bats, 14 hits to seven.
Rega,
Tristen Abreu (SR/Queens, NY) and
Jordan Cassuto (FY/Seaford, NY) each finished with three hits apiece.
On the mound,

Up next for the squad is more home doubleheader action, as they return to the diamond tomorrow (3/8) against Plattsburgh State. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
