PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team dropped a pair of games Sunday afternoon, falling to Plattsburgh State in a non-conference doubleheader.
With the results, the Panthers moved to to 0-4 on the young season, while the Cardinals jumped to 5-0.
Game One: Plattsburgh 3, Purchase 1 (7 inn.)
In the opening contest, the guests raced out to an early lead after a first-inning solo home run.
From there, the Blue and Orange matched the score with a run of their own in the third, after
Frank Rega (SR/West Islip, NY) knocked in
Cameron Cruz (JR/Throggs Neck, NY) on an RBI-single.
The tie margin was short lived however, as Plattsburgh added a run in the fourth to go in front, 2-1. The score remained the same until the seventh, when they guests tallied one more as insurance.
The Panthers then went 1-2-3 out at the plate in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win for the visitors.
In total, the home bats had five hits in game one, as Cruz led the way with two singles, a run scored and a stolen base.
On the mound, starter
Brian Saldana (FY/Middletown, NY) went five innings in the loss. He allowed just two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Game Two: Plattsburgh 6, Purchase 0 (7 inn.)
After a close opening contest, the final game was all Plattsburgh as the squad scored runs in four-straight innings to pad their margin.
For Purchase, the offense was limited to just two hits.

Louis Gonzalez (FY/Yonkers, NY) collected the loss on the hill, as he went five innings as the starting pitcher. He allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits with four strikeouts.
Up next for the squad is more non-conference home action, as they host WestConn on March 11th at 3 p.m. for a single nine-inning game.
