PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team earned two wins Sunday afternoon, as they bested St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn by the scores of 2-0 and 8-5.
With the results, the Panthers are now 12-13 overall and 5-3 in the Skyline Conference. For the Bears, they dropped to 1-16 and 0-8, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 2, St. Joseph's 0 (7 inn.)Â
The first game of the day saw a close battle as the Blue and Orange edged out a win.
Both of their runs came via the small ball, as
Tristen Abreu (SR/Queens, NY) knocked a run in the third, before
Ben Sciarra (SO/Brooklyn, NY) bunted in the final tally in the fifth.
Overall, the Panthers had five hits as Sciarra led the way with two.
On the hill,
Brandon Reybok (SR/Lindenhurst, NY) was sensational, as he pitched a complete-game shutout. Over his seven innings, he allowed just four hits, while striking out five.
Game Two: Purchase 8, St. Joseph's 5
While the scoring grew significantly in the final game, the result remained the same as the hosts prevailed with late-game run support and pitching.
For Purchase, the hosts scored six of the first eight runs of the contest, before the Bears rallied back with three runs to make it 6-5 heading into the eighth.
However, the Blue and Orange added two more runs in the ninth, before holding off a late threat to emerge with the win, 8-5.
Overall, Purchase finished with 13 hits, as
Liam Daly (SR/Babylon, NY) led the way with three hits, including a double, three RBIs, three walks and two runs.
Abreu and
Tyler Della Mura (SR/Rye Brook, NY) each added two hits apiece.
On the mound,
Christian Miesegaes (JR/Staten Island, NY) earned the win after going 6.2 innings. He allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Isaiah Rubin-Patel (JR/Brooklyn, NY) collected the save, his fifth of the season.
Up next for the squad is a road doubleheader with Yeshiva University on April 17th at 10 a.m.
