PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team dropped a pair of home contests Sunday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island by the scores of 3-2 and 3-1.
With the results, the Panthers dropped to 11-11 overall and 3-3 in the Skyline Conference. For the Golden Eagles, they moved to 4-11 and 2-4, respectively.
Game One: St. Joseph's 3, Purchase 2 (8 inn.)
The first game of the day needed extra innings to find a winner.
While the guests scored two runs in the first inning, things remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when
Devynn Hernandez (JR/Ossining, NY) plated two runs for the hosts.
Now tied, and following a scoreless seventh, St. Joseph's responded with a run in the top of the eighth to edge ahead, 3-2, as it escaped with the win.
Overall, the Panthers had four hits as
Tyler Salerno (JR/Kings Park, NY) finished with a hit, a run and walk.
On the mound,
Sam Christopher (JR/North Babylon, NY) pitched a complete-game. Over eight innings, she allowed just three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Game Two: St. Joseph's 3, Purchase 1
The final game of the day saw the offense slow down even more between the two sides, as neither team scored during the first six innings.
In the seventh though, St. Joseph's manufactured three runs, before Purchase came to the plate.
While the hosts scored once, they left the bases loaded with two outs to closeout the weekend.
Overall, the Blue and Orange had seven hits, as
Natalie Gallo (FY/West Haven, CT) led the way with three.
Bryce Kane (FY/Westborough, MA) knocked in the only RBI of the day, and finished with two hits.
Liv Goff (JR/Syracuse, NY) was tagged with the loss, despite the complete game. She allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.
Up next for the squad is a matchup with Manhattanville University on April 18th at 11 a.m.
