PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team earned a pair of wins to celebrate Senior Day Saturday morning, as it bested Sarah Lawrence College by the score of 10-0 twice.
With the wins, the Panthers moved to 15-15 overall and 5-7 in the Skyline Conference. For the Gryphons, they dropped to 4-24 and 2-10, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 10, Sarah Lawrence 0 (5 inn.)
The hosts started the day with their foot on the gas, scoring five runs in the first inning. They added one more in the second, before closing the contest with four runs in the fourth.
Overall, the Blue and Orange finished with 10 hits, as
Sariah Sanchez (SO/Eastvale, CA) led the way with two hits, including a double, three RBIs and one run.
On the mound,
Liv Goff (JR/Syracuse, NY) was exceptional in a complete-game shutout. She went five innings, allowing just two hits against 11 strikeouts.
Following the contest, Goff and
Mel Harper (JR/Patchogue, NY) were honored as the squad's senior duo. While technically they are only juniors, they will both be graduating early this year.
To commemorate their three years with the team, the Panthers paid tribute to their duo with family and friends, giving gifts and hugs to honor the day. After the ceremony, the squad quickly refocused to the task at hand, getting another win over its Skyline foe.
Game Two:Â Purchase 10, Sarah Lawrence 0 (5 inn.)
Luckily for the hosts, the contest was over just as quickly as it started as they plated all 10 runs over the first three innings, including six in the second.
In the end, Purchase had 14 hits, as
Arielle Reddick (SO/Fishkill, NY) powered the effort with three hits, including a home run and a double, three RBIs and two runs.
Bryce Kane (FY/Westborough, MA) earned the win as the starting pitcher, after allowing just two hits over five innings. She struckout nine in the complete game.
Up next for the squad is a matchup with St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on April 26th at 11 a.m.
