PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team dropped a pair of games Sunday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn by the scores for 4-3 and 7-4.
With the results, the Panthers are now 15-17 overall and 5-9 in the Skyline Conference. For the Bears, they moved to 18-12 and 10-4, respectively.
Game One: St. Joseph's 4, Purchase 3
In the opening game, the guests scored two in the first inning, before things went scoreless until the sixth.
From there, the Blue and Orange scored three runs to gain the lead, until an RBI-single in the bottom half tied things up at 3-all.
One inning later, another RBI-single sent the Bears away as winners, as they edged out the hard-fought win.
Overall, Purchase had four hits in the effort, as
Natalie Gallo (FY/West Haven, CT) and
Halle Greaige (JR/Rye Brook, NY) each had a hit and an RBI.
On the mound,
Bryce Kane (FY/Westborough, MA) went 6.1 innings in the loss. She allowed just four runs (one earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts.
Game Two: St. Joseph's 7, Purchase 4
In the final game, the Panthers took the lead early thanks to two runs in the second inning. From there, the guests took the lead, 3-2, before Purchase regained it in the fifth inning, 4-3.
However, four runs over the fifth and sixth innings sealed the win for the Bears, as the Blue and Orange left the field empty-handed.
Overall, the hosts had nine hits, as Kane led the way with three, an RBI and a run.
On the mound,
Liv Goff (JR/Syracuse, NY) was tagged with the loss. She went 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits.
Up next for the Panthers is a a road matchup at Farmingdale State College on May 1st at 3 p.m.
