Panthers Drop Pair to Farmingdale

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team was bested in its doubleheader home finale Friday evening, falling to Farmingdale State College by scores of 7-2 and 4-1.

With the result, the Panthers are now 17-18 overall and 10-8 in the Skyline Conference. For the Rams, they moved to 22-9 and 14-4, respectively.

Game One: Farmingdale 7, Purchase 2 (7 inn.)

Over the first four innings, the two sides were tied at one run apiece. Things changed in the fifth though, as the guests scored three runs in back-to-back frames to take a commanding lead.

The hosts got a run back in the seventh, but weren't able to get any closer.

In the end, the Panthers finished with 10 hits as Liam Daly (SR/Babylon, NY) led the way with three, including a double.

On the hill, Louis Gonzalez (FY/Yonkers, NY) was tagged with the loss in the start. He went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.

Game Two: Farmingdale 4, Purchase 1

The final game of the day was tight throughout, as the Panthers had a chance to steal it late.

Over the first six innings, the game was tied at 1-all, before a wild pitch in the seventh allowed the Rams to pull ahead.

In the eighth inning, the Panthers loaded the bases, before a heartbreaking strikeout ended the run. In the top of the ninth, Farmingdale padded the margin with two more runs, as it eventually won, 4-1.

Overall, the Blue and Orange tallied eight hits as Cameron Cruz (JR/Throggs Neck, NY) and Dominick Coniglio (SO/Kings Park, NY) each finished with two hits apiece.

On the mound, Brandon Reybok (SR/Lindenhurst, NY) collected the loss despite a solid outing. He went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts.

Up next for the squad is the regular-season finale, as it travels to Maritime College on May 2nd.
