PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team was bested in its doubleheader home finale Friday evening, falling to Farmingdale State College by scores of 7-2 and 4-1.
With the result, the Panthers are now 17-18 overall and 10-8 in the Skyline Conference. For the Rams, they moved to 22-9 and 14-4, respectively.
Game One: Farmingdale 7, Purchase 2 (7 inn.)
Over the first four innings, the two sides were tied at one run apiece. Things changed in the fifth though, as the guests scored three runs in back-to-back frames to take a commanding lead.
The hosts got a run back in the seventh, but weren't able to get any closer.
In the end, the Panthers finished with 10 hits as
Liam Daly (SR/Babylon, NY) led the way with three, including a double.
On the hill,
Louis Gonzalez (FY/Yonkers, NY) was tagged with the loss in the start. He went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.
Game Two: Farmingdale 4, Purchase 1
The final game of the day was tight throughout, as the Panthers had a chance to steal it late.Â
Over the first six innings, the game was tied at 1-all, before a wild pitch in the seventh allowed the Rams to pull ahead.
In the eighth inning, the Panthers loaded the bases, before a heartbreaking strikeout ended the run. In the top of the ninth, Farmingdale padded the margin with two more runs, as it eventually won, 4-1.
Overall, the Blue and Orange tallied eight hits as
Cameron Cruz (JR/Throggs Neck, NY) and
Dominick Coniglio (SO/Kings Park, NY) each finished with two hits apiece.
On the mound,
Brandon Reybok (SR/Lindenhurst, NY) collected the loss despite a solid outing. He went 6.2Â innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts.
Up next for the squad is the regular-season finale, as it travels to Maritime College on May 2nd.
