PURCHASE, N.Y. - The SUNY Purchase men's soccer team opened up the 2026 slate with a hard-fought tie Tuesday night, as it equaled Yeshiva University at 2-all.
With the result, both teams started the year 0-0-1 overall and in the Skyline Conference.
The Macs scored first, finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute. Just seven minutes later,
Rene Salmeron-Reyes (FY/Fort Lauderdale, FL) equalized for the hosts as he put one past the keeper.
The score remained 1-1 at halftime, before the guests took advantage of some nice passing in the box to regain the lead in the 55th.
Purchase then fought for an equalizer as
Jacob Pence (SO/Asbury, NJ) tied things up off a free kick feed from
Outman Ait Sidi Ahmed (SO/Mahammedia, Morocco) in the 66th.
From there, things remained tight and evenly matched as the two sides eventually settled for the draw to start the season.
In total, Yeshiva paced the game in shots, 16-13 and shots on goal, 10-6, while the Panthers led the way on corner kicks, 9-3.
Individually, Salmeron-Reyes led the effort with three shots. In goal,
Nicholas Sheridan (SO/Ansonia, CT) tallied eight saves.
Up next for the squad is the SUNY New Patlz Tournament this weekend. The first game will be against SUNY Delhi on September 4th at 5 p.m.
