Purchase, NY
(Oct. 13, 2010) – Mount Saint Mary made a pair of first period scores standup Wednesday night at Purchase, topping the Panthers 3-0.
The Knights (1-11-2, 1-4-2 Skyline Conference) earned their first win of the season. MSMC certainly did not play like a last place team, recording 18 shots in the opening 45 minutes, including nine on goal.
Mount jumped on the board at 23:28 behind a Matt Glaviano score from Francesco Marano and Matt Pagano. The Knights turned in the early lead off a corner kick and header.
Building off the momentum, MSMC added its second score of the night when Pagano found Marando (38:20) about 15 yards from the goal. Marando buried the ball in the back of the net on a laser smash. The Panthers battled, but came up short to MSMC Wednesday night. PHOTO BY KARLA MERA
The Knights would benefit from an own goal by the Panthers in the second half, which produced the final score.
MSMC took four corners in the first to Purchase's zero, keeping the pressure deep in the Panthers' zone for most of the game. The Knights outshot Purchase 29-8, including 18-1 in the first half.
Lost in the outcome was the great play of Purchase keeper
David Kurzweil (SR/Bedford, NY), who kept MSMC off the board earlier in the first half with a sparkling save in the 26th minute. He totaled 14 saves.
Purchase dropped to 0-6-1 in the league.
