Zakari’s Two Goals Lift CCNY

New York, NY (Sept. 18, 2010) – Behind Muhammad Zakari's two scores, the City College of New York bested visiting Purchase 4-0 at Randall's Island Saturday afternoon.

In the process, CCNY (1-5) earned its first win of the season, while handing the Panthers (0-4) their fourth straight loss.

The Beavers used a solid combination of aggressive offense and relentless defense in picking up the victory.

CCNY got on the board first at the 11:17 mark when Zakari scored his first goal of the day. Amir Auwalu and Edward Ames picked up assists for the Beavers on the play.

Exactly five minutes later, CCNY would strike again as Ames would score a goal at 16:17 to give his team a two-goal lead.

A little over 10 minutes later, the Beavers would up their lead to three goals when Zakari tallied his second goal of the game at 27:37.

On that score, it was Auwalu feeding a ball into the box for Zakari. Auwalu would later give the Beavers their fourth and final goal of the contest, scoring at 42:27 in the first half.

In the second, CCNY used suffocating defensive play to keep the Panthers from being able to muster any kind of offensive attack.

The Beavers out-shot the Panthers by an 18-3 count for the afternoon.

Purchase is still searching for its first win. The Panthers will try again Thursday at home, when they host St. Joseph's College-LI in their first league game of the season.
