CMSV’s Late Goal Upends Panthers

Purchase, NY (Sept. 25, 2010) – CMSV's Hugo Hernandez broke a 1-1 tie in the second half as the Dolphins picked up their first Skyline Conference win in a 2-1 victory over Purchase Saturday.

Joshua Zumbado also scored for the Dolphins, who improved to 2-2-1 and 1-1 in the Skyline.

After heavy pressure from the Mount in the first half, Zumbado got the Dolphins on the board with his second score of the season with just under five minutes left before halftime. He finished off a crossing feed from Ahmed Ajao, who picked up his first helper of the season. It also marked the second straight game Zumbado scored for the Dolphins.

The one goal lead would hold until the 68th minute when Purchase would knot the score at 1-1. Robert Acosta (SO/Queens, NY) carried the ball from the left into the box and fed a ball to the goal mouth where Nicolas Periera (SR/Mahopac, NY) pounded in a rebound to tie the game. The lead for Purchase (0-6-1, 0-2 Skyline) would be short lived as Hernandez quickly got CMSV back in front with what proved to be the game winning tally.

Lost in the final score, Purchase keeper David Kurzweil (SR/Bedford, NY) played a strong game in goal, making 12 saves for the Panthers.

The Dolphins hosted the matchup at Purchase due to problems with their home field.
