John Jay Too Much for Starters

Bloodhounds Spoil Opener, 4-1

Purchase, NY (Sept. 3, 2010) – Daniel Grabowski-Clark handed Purchase an early lead, but visiting John Jay regrouped for a 4-1 come-from-behind win Friday night.

John Jay's victory spoiled Purchase's season opener. The Bloodhounds pull even at 1-1, while dropping the Panthers to 0-1.

Grabowski-Clark (SR/Farmington, CT) scored Purchase's only goal, coming off a penalty kick that had the John Jay bench in an uproar.

The talented Bloodhounds appeared sharper than the Panthers, although it took them a minute to get rolling.

After entering the intermission tied at 1-1, John Jay piled on three more goals in the final half – out-shooting the Panthers 26-6 for the game.

Ratko Rakocevic scored the game-tying goal in the 40th minute off a corner from Sebastian Hernandez that also rebounded off Kareem Roberts before Rakocevic tucked it away in the back of the net. Rakocevic returned the favor shortly later. Roberts helped John Jay take an early 2-1 lead in the second half off an assist from Rakocevic.

The Bloodhounds never looked back as Edward Gonzalez added his second goal of the early season late and Jason Walker tacked another on for good measure.

David Kurzweil (SR/Bedford, NY) has big shoes to fill with the departure of Alex Frenkel in goal. But Kurzweil played solid, making nine saves in defeat.

Purchase will look to bounce back quickly following the holiday weekend. The Panthers return to action Tuesday at Medgar Evers in another non-conference tilt.
