Purchase, NY (Oct. 9, 2011) – Even a pair of overtime periods Sunday at Purchase couldn't determine the outcome of the annual “Battle of the Panthers.”

Purchase and rival SUNY College at Old Westbury – two programs that share the Panther mascot – duked it out on the turf in an eventual 1-1, double overtime stalemate. The game was originally set for Saturday afternoon, but with the holiday was moved to Sunday. Inclement weather also moved the game from Old Westbury to Purchase, with OW staying the home team.

Amid all the changes, Old Westbury (4-8-1, 3-2-1 Skyline Conference) scored first. Tana Weekes provided the game's first goal in the first half.

However, Purchase bounced back, keeping the game scoreless until a penalty kick in the second half off the foot of standout rookie Stefan Gohler (FR/Brooklyn, NY) tied it at 1-1.

And that's how it would stand as the second half expired and another two periods went by.

Each team had several opportunities to put away the game-winning goal, but neither found the back of the net.

The stars of the day had to be the keepers and the defenses. OW's Pablo Diaz and Purchase's David Kurzweil (SR/Bedford, NY) both performed well in goal.

With the tie, the Panthers are now 6-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Skyline play.
